Airport Management Training

The broad field of aviation management is the focus of the following list of institutions with either industry courses or programs of study primarily at the level of Bachelor and Masters. The programs are generally non-flight, non-engineering and many feature distance learning. Unless otherwise noted, all programs offer instruction in the English language. Linked with the Sydney-based Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation, this flexible program is tailored specifically to the industry requirements of the Asia-Pacific Region. The program takes a customized approach and can be completed through the intensive one and one-half year study program or in less time with advance recognition for prior learning and experience. Content delivery is available on campus, in-company or by distance learning.

The Department of Aviation offers a variety of programs designed for aviation personnel with differing interests, available time and commitment levels. Options for study include a Bachelor in Aviation, Graduate Certificate or Diploma and a postgraduate MSc level program in Aviation Management. University of Newcastle | BSc, Graduate Certificate | Masters of Aviation Management (MAvM)

Programs offered include a Bsc in Aviation in conjunction with a parallel flight-training program, Graduate Certificate of Aviation Management and a Masters of Aviation Management. The International Aviation MBA Program (IAMBA), established in 1992, has been developed in partnership with the International Airport Transport Association (IATA) combining core business skills with specialized subjects such as airline and aviation management. Learning formats available include a one-year, full-time program as well as an executive IAMBA and a global two-year program.


Aviation Training and Development Institute
| (ATDI) Courses, Diploma

ADTI is the training arm of the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) that was established in 1999. Courses offered in Montreal include fundamental and advanced airport planning, airport operations, commercial and strategic management, security and law. Courses are also offered abroad in Morocco, Singapore, South Africa, Brazil and Togo. ATDI has developed a unique Airport Management Simulation Model (AMSM) software for all of senior management courses that enables participants to determine the consequences of decisions as an interactive learning tool.



Ecole Nationale de l'Avation Civile (ENAC) | MA
Toulouse, France

Established in 1989, the school offers a full-time Masters in Airport Management. The first half-year is focused on classroom modules with the remaining six months of training featuring hands on training 'in the field'. All tuition in the French language.


Institut d'Etudes Internationales et de Developpement (I.E.I.D.) | Diploma
Toulouse, France

Institute for International Studies on Development providing diploma qualifications in the aviation sector. Obligatory courses in broad areas of development with specialized modules in the economics of air transport and international tourism. Recent research thesis topics have included cargo development issues. The program is offered in the French language.



Flughafen Frankfurt Main AG | Seminar

Training seminars in 'Airport Business' of five-days duration with a mixture of lectures, presentations, group discussions, site visits and tours. Seminars provide an overview of airport management issues, insight into specialist fields and aspects of operations as well as planning, revenue, marketing and safety.



The Maastricht School of Management (MSM) | MBA
The Netherlands

The Maastricht School of Management (MSM) together with the Netherlands Aviation Academy (NAA) have combined to design a program for full-time aviation industry executives. Program format is part-time studies of six modules spread over two years. Institutions within the Netherlands Aviation academy include Schiphol Project Consult, The International Institute of Air and Space of Leiden University and The Institute for Transport Economics of the University of Amsterdam.

A variety of flexible programs available with study either full-time or part-time on campus, or by distance education. Courses designed to update skills of professionals in the aviation industry, to add to undergraduate training or to peruse independent, post-graduate research. BAv offered in conjunction with the Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA).



Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA) | Diploma

SAA is the training arm of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore catering to aviation management, air traffic control training and airport emergency service training. Offers a Graduate Diploma/Certificate in Aviation Management awarded to those who pass exams for the three modules within a three-year period. A Graduate Diploma Course in Airport Engineering also available. Specialty seminars and conferences also offered at SAA.



Cranfield University | MSc

Cranfield offers two graduate programs including a one-year, full-time MSc in Air Transport, established in the 1970s, and an Executive MSc in Airport Transport. Professional development courses also available based on the modules form the MSc program as well as joint specialty seminars in conjunction with the University of Westminster.


Loughborough University | MSc, Courses
Loughborough, England, UK

Loughborough offers a MSc in Airport Planning and Management specifically targeted to airports and focused on global markets and ICAO regulations. The Airport training programs were developed 20 years ago and continue to expand. The Faculty of Engineering is currently developing an MBA in Airport Management. Airport-related short courses are also offered.


Buckinghamshire Chilterns University | College BA (Hons)

The college offers a three-year program designed to develop specialist knowledge and skills in the area of airline and airport management. Program includes an eight-month industrial placement as well as educational visits and the use of real-life case studies. Areas covered include marketing, business, finance, health and safety, resource management, environment and language acquisition.

The Centre offers an Airport Operators Association (AOA) Management Development program started in 1997 as a joint venture between the University of York and the Cranfield College of Aeronautics and is geared to aviation industry employees without a university background. Curriculum is a combination of management techniques and airport-related topics. Program relies on self-study, distance learning with six one-day interactive workshops.

The University of Westminster offers short-term specialist seminars of three to five days duration aimed at middle and senior management in the aviation industry from around the globe. Topic areas include regional air transport, demand analysis and capacity management, marketing and research, aviation and tourism, airport economics and finance, policy, planning and hubbing. Part-time course in Airport Planning and Management suitable for junior staff is also offered.

Post-graduate program offers a Masters degree in Transport Planning and Management within a year (full-time) or 2-3 years (part-time) geared to eventual careers in the industry or for individuals currently working in airports, civil aviation departments and airlines.

Management program is offered at Stewart Newburgh International Airport and has been designed in consultation with an advisory council of industry experts. Designed for participants with a minimum of an Associate Degree. Curriculum provides sound foundation in aviation business applications based on both business and aviation management core programs. Offers courses in Airport Systems Strategic Planning geared to senior and middle managers and designers responsible for the planning, design, implementation and management of airports, both in terms of physical systems and in the context of economic competition during the focused one-week training course. MIT has the flexibility to offer this course, in an introductory version, at other locations.

Degree programs offered through the College of Business and Public Administration with coursework in finance, management and marketing for a major in Airport Management. Flying qualifications are also included in the program with students earning either a concurrent FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine Ratings or obtaining a private pilot certificate.

Upon completion of the two-year Associate Degree in aviation administration with an emphasis on science and administration courses, further studies in this specialty leading to a BSc in Aviation Administration include course work in accounting, industrial and organization, marketing, business law, aviation administration, business writing and communication. Aviation program may include a flight training option.
